Testimonials

a few words about us

image_1The Sweeny Police Department is a community-oriented police agency serving the 5,000 residents of the City of Sweeny, Texas.

The department utilizes three marked police vehicles and two unmarked.  We are a 24-hour municipal police agency serving the City of Sweeny.  Our officers are dispatched by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department.  We utilize the jail of the West Columbia Police Department.  Our administrative staff works Monday through Friday while our patrol division are on duty 24 hours a day.

We serve an incorporated, Home Rule city with an estimated population of 5,000 citizens.  Sweeny is located about 65 miles southwest of Houston, Texas, where FM 524 intersects with FM 1459.  Sweeny is the western-most incorporated city in Brazoria County, Texas.

To understand the police service we provide, it is important to identify the type of community we serve.  Overall, the community is largely residential.  The major businesses are located on our Main Street (FM 524), Second Street (FM 1459), and our other main thoroughfare, Ashley Wilson Road.  There are many businesses and restaurants.  The city's hospital, the Sweeny Community Hospital, servers the City of Sweeny and the entire West Brazos area.  The Sweeny Independent School District operates three schools within the city: the Sweeny High School, the Sweeny Junior High School, and the Sweeny Elementary School.

The Sweeny Police Department has a good relationship with the citizens and businesses of Sweeny.  Because we are a small community, we are able to provide superior public service.  This web site was designed to be an additional resource to this community for information regarding law enforcement, criminal justice, community service, and public safety.  We also want this web site to reflect our dedication to the philosophy of community-oriented policing.  We want our community to have full access to the police department, and we believe that only through community involvement can our policing efforts be effective and lasting.

Our topics on the web site demonstrate our commitment to providing information which would ordinarily be inaccessible to the general public.  We have listed all of the sex offenders living in the City of Sweeny.  We have provided a warrant list (a list of names and information for people who are currently wanted for criminal violations, both misdemeanor and felony).  We have calculated our crime rate, and have documented our crime statistics.  We also provide information regarding all of our crime reports and arrests.

We encourage feedback from our web site visitors.  Please contacts us with questions and  comments.  We also encourage questions about law enforcement, crime prevention, and any other public safety topic.  We will be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Once again, thank you for visiting our web site.
